Step 1. Wrap 3/0 tying thread backwards from the hook eye to where the shank starts to bend. Tie-in a Fly-fur wing just ahead of this point. After securing the wing, take a few extra thread wraps behind the Fly-fur in order to prop it upwards at a forty-five degree angle. Finally, lock the wing in place by tying-in a support loop of 20 pound Mason's mono.
Step 2. Tie-in a bright orange yarn egg sac over the wing wraps.
Step 3. Tie-in four alternately colored lengths of brown and tan Aunt Lydia's Craft Yarn, beginning just in front of the egg sac with brown. Secure each piece in a side-to-side orientation by figure-eighting the tying thread.
Step 4. Comb and carefully trim the yarn in order to create a Merkin-style crab body.
Step 5. After trimming the body, tie-in a set of dumbell (or bead-chain) eyes and a fifteen-pound Mason's moustache weed guard just ahead of the yarn body before tying-off the thread.
Step 6. Using a waterproof marking pen, add several wide color bands to the Fly-fur wing. That's all there is to it!
