The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide
The revised edition is as groundbreaking today as the original was more than 20 years ago.
Aug 22, 2007
By Tom Rosenbauer
(The Lyons Press, 2007,
www.orvis.com)
288 pp.; softcover; 400 color photos and illustration; $34.95

Last year, while on a Bahamas bonefishing junket, Tom Rosenbauer told me he was revising his classic work, The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide

The idea puzzled me a little bit; his original work, published in 1984, was one of the most complete volumes ever written about our sport, covering tackle and techniques for everything from diminutive native brook trout to sharks, tuna and mackerel.

The revised edition is as groundbreaking today as the original was more than 20 years ago. Updated with more than 400 color photographs and detailed illustrations, Rosenbauer arms anglers — from the novice to the old hand — with everything they need to know to conquer the sport.

His in-depth chapter on salt water covers bonefish, permit, tarpon, redfish, trout, snook, barracuda, sharks, striped bass and bluefish, and he covers the fine points of striking, fighting and landing fish — something that can be tough for neophytes to grasp.

This is a good one to add to anybody's angling library. — TL
