Fishing Los Roques in Venezuela, avid fly angler Dotty Ballantyne, of Bozeman, Mont., USA, guided by Oswald Valerio, landed a horse-eye jack (Caranx latus) on January 8, weighing 2.27 kg (5 lb 0 oz). She was using a Pugliesi fly on 1 kg (2 lb) tippet and took an hour and 15 minutes to skillfully land the fish for another potential slot in the IGFA record books that was previously vacant. Ballantyne also holds the female 4 lb tippet class for the same species caught in Mexico a year ago. She's shown here releasing the fish after documenting.
