Tagging Tournament set for May in Belize

The goal of the tourney is to tag as many bonefish and permit as possible with spaghetti tags.

The Frontiers Exclusive is back by popular demand. The second annual event will be held May 18-25 out of Belize River Lodge, located just outside of Belize City. The goal of the tournament will be for participating anglers to tag as many bonefish and permit as possible with carefully placed spaghetti tags.

Data gained from these tags will help scientists better monitor the growth and migration patterns of these two great game fish. All in all, the information will help conserve and enhance this outstanding fishery.

Bonefish and permit won’t be the only two species targeted — at least one trackable satellite tag will be placed on a big tarpon.

On the final evening of the event, prizes will be awarded to those who tag the most and largest bonefish and permit.

Bonefish Tarpon Trust member and longtime angler Mick Kolassa will host the tournament and will also assist BTT scientists taking part in the tagging. After fishing, these scientists will give presentations on their past findings and will answer questions from tournament participants.

If you have an interest in taking part in this exciting conservation effort, contact Denise Schreiber by e-mailing dschreiber@frontierstravel.com. The cost of the seven-night, six-day fishing package is $3,668 per person based on double occupancy and a shared guide. Frontiers Travel and Belize River Lodge will make a donation to BTT on behalf of each trip participant. To learn more, visit frontierstravel.com or tarbone.org.
