Big Boys Off-Shore Charity Tournament set for April 25-27 in Key Largo
Mon, Mar 31, 2008

The Big Boys Off-Shore Charity Fishing Tournament, set for Friday through Sunday, April 25-27, offers a $20,000 prize to the angler who catches the largest dolphin weighing more than 62 pounds. The popular Key Largo tournament is now in its third year.

Trophies and cash prizes of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000, respectively, await the first-, second- and third-place teams. Scoring is based on total aggregate weight of three fish per day. Cash prizes also are to be awarded for the largest dolphin and largest tuna caught.

Registration is set for 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Sundowners on the Bay, mile marker (MM) 104 bayside in Key Largo -- the host location for all land-based events. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres are to be served 6-7 p.m., followed by a captains meeting at 7 p.m.

Fishing is to begin with lines in at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26. Official weigh-in stations are to be located at Sundowners and Holiday Isle Marina, MM 84 oceanside in Islamorada. The final day of fishing is Sunday, April 27.

Entry fee is $500 per boat, which includes up to four people (any combination of anglers, captain and mates). The tournament is to benefit the Treasure Village Montessori School and the International Game Fish Association Junior Angler Program.

Anglers and landlubbers alike can join the fun and help the cause by participating in the Upper Keys Fishing Festival to run Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sundowners. Attendees can cast their eyes on nautical art and jewelry, try their luck in a casting contest or at the dunk booth, visit a touch tank and enjoy a variety of games.
