Mustad Signature Series

Signature Series hooks feature micro-barbs and chemically sharpened points for quick penetration.
Jan 8, 2009

Fly tiers take note: Popular hook manufacturer Mustad has merged its best-selling, classic fly-hook patterns with its Signature Series under one umbrella hook brand. That's good news because now every Signature fly hook is specifically designed with a consistent gap, bend, wire diameter and shank length for precise scaling of all your saltwater fly patterns.

Signature Series hooks feature micro-barbs and chemically sharpened points for quick penetration. They also provide tiers with unparalleled hook strength. Mustad says it employs a three-stage, computer-controlled Nor-Tempering process that increases hook strength up to 30 percent compared with conventional tempering processes.

Also, in select saltwater patterns, the company is introducing a new, high-tech finish called Z-steel, which Mustad says is eight times more corrosion-resistant than stainless. When the patented finish is applied to high-carbon steel (which is stronger than stainless), the points can be honed much sharper for a remarkably sticky-sharp point. www.mustad.no
