The Sport Fishing Photo Contest February 2008 Winners

Congrats to our winners!

February presented some of the hardest decisions to date for our judges in picking winning photos . We received over 250 entries and many of these were fantastic shots. This month, we received many more than three potential contest winners. To all of our upcoming outdoors photographers: keep up the good work!

Now to our winners:

THIRD PLACE

This fish was caught with the Great Sailfishing Company aboard the Joint Venture.  It was our second time fishing with the Great Sailfishing Company, and we released 39 sails in two days.  We were fishing the Pacific coast of Guatemala out of Puerto Quetzal/Pez Vela Marina. The dorado featured in the picture made great ceviche and a wonderful dinner.

SECOND PLACE

This shot was taken in late October, during a Soft Plastics fishing contest in the Hauraki Gulf, near Auckland City in NZ. The gannets were working meatbals of pilchards, which had been driven up by pods of dolphins. Also feeding freely around and through these meatballs were a couple of Sei whales.

FIRST PLACE

Massive tunas up to 300 pounds were balling ballyhoo and flying fish on the banks this day.  360 degrees around the boat we had these monster tunas flying through the air crashing bait.  We actually stopped catching them after a while and just sat back and enjoyed the show.  I managed to snap this photo as several fish in the 300 pound class absolutely decimated this particular bait school.
